Five Years? Where Have They Gone?
Yes indeed, five years ago today I posted the first entry in this blog. I still can't believe it has been that long. It feels like yesterday... until I start thinking of all the people I've met, books I read and events I've attended.
People's first question to me is always, "did you have any idea you'd end up where you are?" Well, I kind of think I'm in the same place, only with more fellow readers around to talk to! But no, I had no idea I would meet some of my very best friends in this world or meet some of the people I admire most. Book lovers are an incredible group and crime fiction book lovers are...well, they're my people and I'm humbled and blessed that they all let me hang around and talk about the books with them.
More than anything, though, I'm humbled and blessed that every person who reads my blog takes time from their busy lives to do so. And those who leave comments and send me emails, you give me a gift each time. Thank you for your time and friendship. Thank you to all the authors, audiobook narrators, other bloggers, booksellers, publicists, etc. who have contributed when I've come calling in their inboxes: "would you like to...?" It would be a boring blog if I did it all solo.
So, in honor of this anniversary...or blogiversay I want to give away a gift. I have a fun (I hope) little readers prize pack put together. It includes a small selection of books, some bookmarks, and a Jen's Book Thoughts coffee mug. Not pictured below, but will also be included is: some yummy stuff to drink in your mug (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) and some Buckeyes. For those who may not know what I'm talking about, no, I will not be filling your box with a nut from a tree. Well known in Ohio, but not so much outside of Ohio, is the Buckeye candy: a ball of peanut butter dipped in chocolate -- it looks like a Buckeye. I'll add these additional items just before sending so that they're fresh.
Since I have readers all over the place, this contest will be open to any and all. And I'll leave it open through the end of January. Just fill out the form below to be entered.
Then, if you would care to leave a comment on today's post, I'd love to know if you discovered a book or author because of something we did here on the blog. It doesn't need to be from a review...if you picked up someone's book because of an interview, a memoir, a guest post...whatever.
And thank you again for befriending me and sharing a love of reading. Let's go for another year, shall we?

Happy blogiversary! We know what buckeyes are here in the South - they're yummy!
Thank you for pointing me to writers I would never have heard about and each one has been a winner! I've also enjoyed reading the interviews listed on your sidebar, some I've read more than once. I look forward each day to seeing what's new from you. So across the internet: Hugs...
Happy blogiversary! I can never thank you enough for inducing me to read Craig Johnson''s first book. From you to me to friend Carolyn then to book club, then to my bro-in-law, then my sister, then to all members of bro-in-laws family -- and who knows how many more readers they have brought to the party? All from one of your blog posts. You should get a commission from Craig Johnson!
I am an avid reader and choose many of your suggestions. Thank you for your blog
I'm a native of the Buckeye state those candies are yum. Are you kidding about books? You're one of those bloggers who is dangerous to my wallet!
Congratulations, Jen! Not just on reaching the five year mark, but for making Jen's Book Thoughts so much more than a blog. Any of us could host a blog, but not everyone could take it from a single person talking about books to an interactive site, writing book reviews for other publications, becoming a recognized expert in the Crime Fiction Genre.
Also, thank you for all of your encouragement in writing my own book reviews and sharing them, for providing me not only with great books but your insight and assistance, and introducing me to so many of your friends.
I hope the next five years bring you double the success you've already earned. You deserve it!
George.
Happy blogiversary, Jen! I grew up about 60 miles east of Cleveland on the lake and know the buckeye well. I want to thank you for introducing me to Lou Berney. Like you, I loved Gutshot Straight and Whiskey River. In fact, I even found (and bought) another of his books: The Road to Bobby Joe and Other Stories. Your book thoughts have been a great gift to me.
Congratulations - and here's to at least 5 more years!
You introduced me to Brad Parks, by way of Lesa, among others.
Happy blogiversary, Jen! Buckeye candy is awesome. You've introduced me to quite a few authors, I love picking your brain about books!
Jen, I only read a few blogs and most of them only occaisionally. I read yours every day, however, and I can't tell you how many books and authors I've started reading because of your reviews. Thanks for that and, please, keep doing what you do so well!
Congratulations!!! I love your blog May you have many more years blooging
Hi all, thanks for these super nice comments. The greatest gift for me from this blog is knowing people are introduced to books they enjoy. It makes my heart smile.
Thank you for sharing that with me! I'm blessed.
Hi Jen,
Happy birthday to Jen's book thoughts.
Yep, your blog has introduced me to a number of different authors and reminded me of a few favorites as well. Whenever I read your blog I jot down in my books to be read notebook the authors/books that you have reviewed that look of interest to me.
And I must thank you for introducing me to the wonderful works of Louise Penny...hmmm or maybe I should curse you for my current obsession (I can't seem to put her work down once I have cracked the spine)...grin.
Have you tried Handel's buckeye ice cream in Toledo? Food of the goddess...
Congrats on 5 years, Jen! I love talking books and blogging with you, and one author you introduced me to last year was Oliver Harris. Your review of THE HOLLOW MAN made me want to read it. Thanks!
Congratulations, Jen! I can't believe that it's been five years already. It seems like just yesterday you were at the library to see Michael Koryta that first time. Keep up the great work. There are so many authors/titles that I've found on your blog I don't even know where to start. Evelyn
Congrats on 5 years!
The blog has led me to many a book, so I can't just name one.
What I can do, is Thank You for your efforts!
Happy anniversary, Jen! Can't believe it's been 5 years (time flies when reading - or in your case, writing - a great blog).
Congratulations, and here's to the next five years of criminal adventures!

Sean

My husband loves buckeyes, by the way.
Congratulations. Your blog is essential reading for me. There are many authors who I first heard about on your blog.
Happy belated blogiversary! You've introduced me to so many fantastic authors and books, it's hard to list them all here!

I have learned about many new webspots from you: Friday Reads, Criminal Minds, Shelf Awareness, and a few more. I have also learned about many new authors via Jen's Book Thoughts, Brad Parks, Michael Robotham...the list goes on~ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY and keep up the GREAT JOB!!!!! :)
